HAGA - GOTHENBURG HISTORY
HAGA NYGATA 3
(Niclas Larsson S1F) The reason Haga became one of Gothenburgs more popular living areas during the 1700's was the building of the fortress "The Crown" (Skansen Kronan) 1687 and the fact that the scale for the export of Iron was moved from the centre of town (Brunnsparken) to the "Iron square" (Järntorget). When the Council of the City later decided to demolish the old city walls and some of the defense work even more people moved into Haga.
Haga Nygatan 3 was owned by Konrad Jacobsson who also owned several other apartment buildings. He did not live at this address. Haga Nygata is registered as plot number 31 and 32 in the tax/census records of West Haga (Westra Haga)..
The apartment building is located at the corner of Haga Nygata and Mellangatan. Today's building is not the same as in 1880. This one is a three-storey building made of bricks, concrete and wood (a typical "governors house").
In 1899 everybody from 1880 had moved. New owner was Jöns Andersson, who also owned the building at plot number 50 in "New Haga". More people lived in the new building and the average age was lower compared to 1880.
Haga Nygata 3 is located in West Haga and it belonged to the congregation of Oscar Fredriks church, or Masthuggets parish.
