FORM GROUP - ACTIVITIES, ETC...
Thursday 3/9: We met together with two other Form Groups in N213. After checking who was present we went through a few important issues;
  • Lockers. IB1 have been assigened lockers on the "400" - floor in the South Building. You need to deposite 100 SEK to one of the Janitors in the South Building. They will then give you a key to your locker.
  • I'm still missing an e-mail from a few parents. Please make sure I get that asap!
  • I missing a signed document where you and your guardian (usually your parent) acknowledge the information you received during the first week. Please give this to me asap also.
  • If you want to do "Högskoleprovet" (Swedish Scholastic Aptitude Test) you need to sign up before September 15th (at the website www.studera.nu). The Swedish Scholastic Aptitude Test is a standardized test used as one of the means to gain admission to higher education in Sweden. At this webaddress you can also find some older test if you want to practice.
  • Wednesday next week is a buffertday. IB1 will together with all the other first year students participate in Hvitfeldtskas Soccer Tournament. We need two teams with 7 players in each team. At least three players should be female. Together with all the other IB1 students everybody that wanted to play signed up. Lots of boys and quite a few girls as well - great! Let's kick some ***!
That was basically it - see you next week!
Thursday 10/9: We met together - again - with the two other form groups in N213. After checking who was present we went through a few important issues;
  • I'm still missing an e-mail from a few parents. Please make sure I get that asap!
  • I'm also missing a signed document where you and your guardian (usually your parent) acknowledge the information you received during the first week. Please give this to me asap also.
  • I'm missing some signed "Photo Agreement Papers".
  • Try to find out if it's possible for you to get some stipendia. It's not all bad to suddenly receive a bit of extra cash.
  • Carina informed our form groups about the possibility to prepare for US university entrance exams by taking the pre-SAT test. This is a great opportunity since the real SAT tests are difficult, thus the earlier you begin preparation, the better. The test takes place on October 14 here at Hvitfeldtska at 9.30 am. The cost is SEK 250. You can read more about the test on:  www.collegeboard.com   Register by sending an e-mail NO LATER THAN September 30 with name, class and phone number to:
    carl_eric_blomqvist@hotmail.com There are 30 slots available, so first come, first served...
That was basically it - see you in two weeks!

Thursday 24/9: We went to room S403 where you got to know your IB1-mates a bit better through a fast speed-date event. You were 48 students all together. Some of these students you knew, some of them you got to know and you hopefully get to know the rest soon... We will meet as usual in our classroom N213 next week...

Thursday 1/10: Today's big theme was "Absence". Before we focused on this topic we talked about:
  1. Old assignments - Parents e-mail addresses, Signed "received info-paper" and the "Photo paper"
  2. SYV information 14.15 - 14.55 in N215 (PE-group)
  3. "Restfoto".... 14.30
  4. pre-SAT test...
  5. Poor attitudes (towards your topics, your school, your classmates/friends...)
  6. Absence
We will meet as usual in N213 next week...

Thursday 8/10: Today's meeting was a preparation for next week. We will then start individual "Progress talks" with each one of you. It's very important that we find out what you think about your time at our school. Here you can see some of the themes we will discuss:

  • Positive/negative ideas about Hvitfeldtska Gymnasiet (teachers, subjects, classmates, etc...)
  • Your aims with the IB program - any specific career choice?
  • Study habits - some self evaluation...
  • Friends from before - new friends...
  • Free time - hobbies, sport, job, TV, computer time (not schoolwork), etc...
  • + anything you would like us to know
You will receive some more information next week. Don´t forget the lecture by Per Lifvergren on Wednesday between 13.00-15.00. You will not have any ordinary classes that afternoon so this lecture is obligatoric (and it's good!). See you on Wednesday in the North Assembly Hall ("Norra Aulan").

Thursday 15/10: I handed out an invitation to your parents. They should come and hear "Ditt barn går inte i repris" ("There is no rerun of your child") - an invitation to a parents lecture about alcohol and drugs in the teens. This lecture will take place on Monday (October 19th) between 18.30 to 21.00 in the North Assembly Hall ("Norra Aulan") at Hvitfeldtska Gymnasiet. The lecture will be presented by Per Lifvergren (the same person you met in the North Assembly Hall) from the Swedish Drug Police Association ("Svenska narkotikapolisföreningen") and Lennart Johansson, socionom (social worker) involved in the "RUS-project" by the city of Gothenburg.

I then spoke with three of my students; Agnes, Viktor S and William.
